A piece of Albury’s history is set for a new life after Allied Mills decision to retire the milling operations from their Young Street mills. Allied will sell the mill once they have completed decommissioning early next year.
The mill started life in 1911 when the Burrows family relocated their milling operation from Dean Street to the present site. Through several changes of ownership the mill has been added to and expanded to its present size.
Colliers Real Estate has been appointed the Selling Agents and will offer the property for sale by way of Expression of Interest.
Mr Ian Langfield of Colliers believes “the site is ideal for redevelopment”.
“Being located within the Regional Centre zoning, the site can be developed for a range of commercial activities” he said. “With a total site area just over 10,000 square metres, this is one of the largest parcels to be offered in the Albury CBD for some time.”
The property consists of a mix of approximately 3750 square metres,of freehold title with the balance of land being on long term lease with the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
Mr Longfield would not disclose an expected sale price but indicated that all offers would be considered. “There are some substantial buildings on the site and interesting infrastructure and developers may have some creative ideas as to how they might be used in the future”.
“Retail, bulk goods, offices or even residential may be suitable for the site subject to council approval. There is plenty of flexibility with this zoning and we have kept the process open to allow prospective developers to do their homework on the potential of the site” he said.
The mill is included as an item of interest on the Albury City Councils heritage list under the general Railway precinct.
